Cancun International Airport is a 40-50 minute, 58km (36mi) drive from Playa del Carmen. If you’re feeling adventurous, Cozumel International Airport is 34km (21mi) and one 1½ hr ferry ride away. We recommend flying into Cancun and taking a shuttle into Playa. Many hotels in the area offer this service at additional cost; we have listed alternatives in the following sections for your convenience.

We also recommend arriving in Cancun earlier in the day if possible. Some people have reported extended wait times (up to 2 hours) at Customs for afternoon arrivals.

Booking a transfer is the perfect balance between convenience and affordability. If your hotel does not offer transfers, and you’re not interested in renting a car, we recommend pre-booking USA transfers to pick you up from the airport. Another option is to take an ADO Bus from the airport to the Playa Del Carmen terminal, which is located conveniently downtown, just a short walk or taxi ride to most hotels.

For getting around Playa del Carmen, you can call a regular taxi for convenience, or utilize Collectivos which are public transport minivans commonly used by the locals. They have set routes that extend all over Playa and run fairly frequently.
